I design the conditions that help people contribute.

Noa’ia! I’m Emeli Paulo, Rotuman, Fijian and Australian human systems designer, facilitator, experience designer and social entrepreneur.

For almost three decades, I have worked across workplace culture, leadership, learning, community development and large-scale cultural experiences.

The settings have varied, from executive rooms and community programs to public events involving thousands of people. The question underneath the work has remained consistent:

What helps people feel able to participate, contribute and create change together?

My work

I help organisations and communities understand the human conditions shaping how people behave.

That can mean:

• helping a leadership team turn values into practical ways of working

• designing an immersive team or learning experience

• creating safer and more useful participation

• strengthening social connection

• clarifying roles, decisions and accountability

• building cultural and economic infrastructure with underrepresented practitioners

• producing experiences that connect people, ideas and opportunity

My practice brings together organisational development, culture implementation, facilitation, experience design and social innovation.

How this work developed

I began facilitating at 17 through the Reach Foundation, working with young people and learning how the right environment could change someone’s willingness to participate.

At 24, I worked on large-scale social-impact events, including the Make Poverty History concert at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. That experience taught me that significant public moments depend on much more than a stage. They require trust, coordination, storytelling, production and a clear reason for people to come together.

I later founded Collective Potential, a Melbourne social enterprise delivering workshops, coaching, leadership development and community experiences. Its evaluated programs demonstrated stronger confidence, connection, self-awareness, motivation and purpose among participants.

Across this body of work, I have designed more than 1,200 programs, facilitated thousands of workshops and contributed to experiences reaching more than one million people.

Those years helped me see the larger pattern:

People are often expected to change while the conditions around them remain the same.

That insight now sits at the centre of my work.

I later founded SoCo Collective to explore a larger systems question: how can underrepresented practitioners, creators and community leaders access the infrastructure, relationships and opportunities required to turn their knowledge into sustainable work and public value?

Along the way, I have worked around major cultural moments and met people including Oprah Winfrey, Brené Brown, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Sir Richard Branson. Those encounters were memorable, but the deeper learning came from the many thousands of people who trusted me with their experiences, ideas and participation.

Today, my work brings emotional intelligence and systems thinking together.

Through Culture by CoDesign, I help organisations turn values, culture and strategy into behaviours people can practise. Through SoCo Collective, I help build shared cultural, economic and capability infrastructure with communities that have historically been excluded from it.

At the centre of both is one belief:

People are capable of changing the conditions around them.

My role is to bring the right people together, help make the invisible parts of a system visible and turn what people know into practical change.
